Never Forget Those Who Served

My name is Alan C. Carey and I am a military historian dedicated to preserving the history of Navy and Marine Corps Aviation History.

My career as a writer began in the early 1990's when I started the process of obtaining military decorations for my Dad. In 1997, my Dad and surviving members of his crew were awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) and nine additional Air Medals (AM) for their service during World War II.

Through my research, I realized that little had been written about my dad's squadron. Therefore, I began writing books on PB4Y squadrons as a tribute to the brave men who served in this forgotten aspect of World War II.

I am the author of:

  • We Flew Alone: United States Navy B-24 Squadrons in the Pacific (February 1943 to September 1944)
  • The Reluctant Raiders: The Story of United States Navy Bombing Squadron VB/VPB-109
  • Above an Angry Sea: U.S. Navy B-24 Liberator and PB4Y-2 Privateer Operations in the Pacific (October 1944 to August 1945)
  • Junior: The Tales of a Teenage Naval Airman in World War II (Co-authored with my father Robert W. Carey Sr)
  • Leatherneck Bombers: USMC B-25/PBJ Squadrons of World War II
  • PV Ventura and Harpoon Units of World War II
  • Galloping Ghosts of the Brazilian Coast
  • Consolidated-Vultee PB4Y-2 Privateer: The Operational History Of The U.S. Navy's World War II Patrol/Bomber Aircraft

I want to thank the fighting men of Navy Patrol Bombing Squadron 109 (The Reluctant Raiders)and to my dad, a veteran of 109. Without their help, my first book would not have been possible and the story of Navy Liberator and Privateer squadrons may have never been told.
